What is a Tele-Presence Robot?
A tele-presence robot, (a.k.a “remote presence”) allows a user on the internet to pilot a robot remotely and conduct a video conference. The robot is equipped with cameras, audio equipment, and a monitor. This equipment is mounted on a remote-controlled chassis.

How will it be done?
The robot will use a proven chassis from the Segway company. This will speed up assembly and programming. The main challenges :
- Design to emphasize human interaction with the pilot
- GUI interface on the internet to reduce cognitive load on the pilot
- Mechanical and electrical integration of various sensors and computer peripherals on the chassis.
- Software to control motors and and read from the sensors
When?
The bulk of this project will occur during the summer (May-Aug, 2011), so we need students who will be in town this summer and can commit 5-10 hours per week during the summer.
